Sporting 100k 2012 Report

A big Thank You to all the 79 people who participated in our annual Sporting 100k on a wet miserable day. Thanks to all the support staff that made the event what it was, a great success The group kindly kept together for the first stint to Waterford approx 25km. From there on the participants naturally formed their own groups depending on their fitness level. There was two mechanicals earlier on in the event. They were quickly attended to. One rider came down taking a bend, thankfully he quickly remounted and rejoined the group he was in. The motorbike Marshall's were led by Chief outrider Denis Banville and his competent crew. Their skills were much appreciated in the difficult task they performed in such poor conditions. Everyone was welcomed at the end to hot showers and refreshments by the excellent catering staff that made everyone welcome and nourished by the time they were finished. EMMETT RONAN Storms to Victory for BARROW WHEELERS

With a lot of competitors preparing themselves for the 2012 racing season, the annual hamper races are always a good indicator of form for the following year, S.E.R.C. and wexford cc held their hamper races lately with the barrow boys very prominant in both, in Gorey Emmet and Andrew Ronan started  in the first group on the road with the main group of sixty riders not far behind, Emmet eventually found himself with just one other rider that could hold his wheel "Nigel Allen from Wexford wheelers cc" a breakaway group of seven formed out of the main bunch with four of them barrow wheelers "Hugh Byrne, Patsy McCaffrery, Gerry Byrne and David Whitty" this led to some great tactical and team racing with Emmett taking the win, Gerry with the best A3 and Andrew with the a4 prize, six riders placed in the top ten out of a strong field showing how dominating the barrow cc performance was, the following sunday wexford cc had yet another big entry with the barrow wheeler crew again very prominent and in the thick of the action from the start with David Whitty netting sixth and pat macaffery eigth, on a more relaxed note anyone who has any new year resolutions that involve a bicycle might find getting fit with the local cycling club has way more benifits than trying to grind out the kilometres on their own, if interested please contact Barrow Wheelers for more information.
